Cincinnati Reds -150 / Pittsburgh Pirates +140 O/U: 9
The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cincinnati Reds will match up on the MLB diamond for game one of their doubleheader Monday.
Pittsburgh is coming out of a weekend set against the Dodgers. The Pirates lost Friday 10-2 and 7-2 on Saturday. In the Sunday finale, Pittsburgh fell 11-7.
For Monday’s game one, the Pirates will be sending out Nick Kingham in the start. In his 24.2 innings and 1-1 mark this year, Kingham has an 8.76 ERA with 23 Ks and 14 BBs.
Over on the Reds’ side, they just finished up against the Cubs this weekend. Cincinnati took game one of that series 6-5 then lost 8-6 Saturday. In the rubber match Sunday, the Reds bagged another win 10-2.
For the game one on Monday, Cincinnati will be going with Luis Castillo for the start. In his 64.1 innings and 5-1 mark so far, Castillo has a 2.38 ERA with 78 Ks and 28 BBs.
The Pirates are 6-1 in their last seven in game one of a doubleheader and 0-5 in their last six in game one of a series. Pitt is 0-4 in their last four Monday games and 1-6 in Kingham’s last seven starts.
Meanwhile, the Reds are 3-7 in their last 10 Monday games and 8-2 in Castillo’s last ten starts in game one of a series. Cincinnati is 13-5 in Castillo’s last 18 home starts and the under is 5-1 in their last six in game one of a series.
It’s been a couple of rough starts for Kingham over his last pair. In those games, he’s put up just 8.0 innings and given up 13 earned on 19 hits.
As for Castillo, he had a rough start as well his last time up with four earned in 2.2 innings in Milwaukee. That said, Castillo has been pretty reliable this season overall, so I’m going to stick with the Reds here.
