Cincinnati Reds / Texas Rangers -- O/U:
The Texas Rangers and the Cincinnati Reds meet in game one of their three game interleague set in MLB action from Great American Ballpark on Friday.
The Texas Rangers will look to bounce back after settling for a series split with the Red Sox, dropping the series finale on Thursday by a final score of 7-6. Elvis Andrus led the Rangers by going 3 for 5 with three RBIs while Logan Forsythe had two RBIs and Hunter Pence went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI to round out Texas’ scoring as a team in the losing effort. Delino DeShields added a double while Rougned Odor added a base hit as well to cap off the Rangers’ offense as a team in the defeat. Adrian Sampson gave up six runs on seven hits while striking out five over five innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Peter Fairbanks took the loss, falling to 0-1 on the year. Cincinnati has yet to announce a starting pitcher at the time of posting this article.
The Cincinnati Reds will look to pick up some momentum after earning a series split with the Cleveland Indians following a 7-2 win over the Tribe on Wednesday. Jose Iglesias had a pair of doubles and two RBIs while Curt Casali, Eugenio Suarez, Nick Senzel and Joey Votto each had a solo home run. Jose Peraza added a double and an RBI to finish off Cincinnati’s scoring as a team in the win while Derek Dietrich added a double of his own and Yasiel Puig chipped in a base hit to round out the Reds offense as a team in the victory. Anthony DeSclafani got the win to improve to 3-3 on the year after allowing one run on four hits over 5.2 innings of work. Tyler Mahle will start the opener and is 2-6 with a 4.21 ERA and 69 strikeouts this season. This will be Mahle’s first career start against Texas.
Texas is18-38 in their last 56 road games and 11-5 in their last 16 games against a right-handed starter while the under is 7-0-1 in their last 8 Friday games. Cincinnati is 3-14 in Mahle’s last 17 starts and 29-61 in their last 90 interleague games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against the AL West. The over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Cincinnati.
You could make a case for Cincinnati as the Reds have had the extra day of rest and while Mahle hasn’t been great this season, the majority of his starts have come on the road, and the Reds have won some of his starts at home this season. However, even after having to play the Red Sox and travel from Boston for this one, the Rangers are still the team in much better form here and I think that Texas should be the play here.
