MLB | Arizona Diamondbacks (51-67) at Cleveland Indians (59-59)

The Cleveland Indians and the Arizona Diamondbacks face off on Wednesday at Progressive Field in Cleveland for game one of a double header.

The Cleveland Indians had the lead on Tuesday against Arizona but then the weather took over and with not enough innings played to be a regulation game they will start back at 0-0 today. The Indians are at .500 but very much in the AL Wildcard race and five games back in the AL Central. The Indians are 34-22, have gone 6-4 their last 10 games, and they have won their last two. For game one on Wednesday the Indians start Trevor Bauer who has struggled of late losing his last three decisions and racking up a 7.48 ERA in his last three starts. For the season Bauer id 4-7 with 4.52 ERA allowing 108 hits, 50 earned runs, and striking out 92 over 99.2 innings of work.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are tied for the second worst record in the National league as they never overcame a horrific start. To add insult to injury the D-backs are without their best player, Paul Goldschmidt, who is out the rest of the season with a broken hand. Arizona is 26-28 on the road this season and 4-6 in their last 10 games. For game one on Wednesday the Diamondbacks start Andrew Chafin who makes his first career major league start. Chafin, a native of Dayton, OH, was expected to work out of the bullpen but he is expected to have a large group of family and friends at the game cheering him on.

Cleveland is 4-1 in their last five home games, 6-2 against the NL West, and 6-2 in Bauer’s last eight home starts. Arizona is 2-5 in their last seven interleague road games, 1-5 as an underdog, and 0-4 against a right-handed starter. Arizona is 2-6 in the last eight meetings against Cleveland.

I honestly don’t know a lot about Chafin that I can really dig my teeth into this one but the Indians have been sharp at home and are just the better team and are my likely choice. The odds for this one aren’t out yet but I will update this with them shortly after they are released bur regardless the Indians are my pick.
