The Cleveland Indians and the Baltimore Orioles face off on Saturday in Celvelad for game two of their series.
The Cleveland Indians needed extra innings on Friday but they got it done beating the Orioles. Mike Aviles and Zach Walters each hit home runs and Jason Kipnis and Carlos Santana each had hits as the Indians scored two runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Corey Kluber allowed five hits and a run while striking out 10 over 7.2 innings to not factor in the decision as Bryan Shaw blew the save and Scot Atchison got the win to go to 6-0 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Indians start Carlos Carrasco who has moved back to the starting rotation after working from the bullpen for several months. For the season Carrasco has allowed 60 hits and 28 earned runs while striking out 66 over 70 innings for a 4-4 record and a 3.60 ERA.
The Baltimore Orioles battled back on Friday but in the end it wasn’t enough as they lost to the Indians. J.J. Hardy had two hits and Delmon Young and Nelson Cruz had hits as the Orioles scored one run on seven hits. Starting pitcher Wei-Yin Chen allowed four hits and a run while striking out six over 7.0 innings to not get a decision as it was Brian Matusz who took the loss to fall to 2-3 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Orioles start Ubaldo Jimenez who won his last start after retuning from the DL. For the season Jimenez has allowed 99 hits and 53 earned run while striking out 93 over 105.2 innings for a 4-8 record and a 4.51 ERA.
Cleveland is 6-2 in their last eight home games, 10-4 in game two of a series, and 4-14 in Carrasco’s last 18 starts. Baltimore is 4-2 in their last six road games, 27-12 in their last 39 games, and 4-0 in Jimenez’s last four starts. Baltimore is 15-36 in their last 51 games in Cleveland.
I don’t love this game but the better play looks to be the home team though the Indians are really just a lean at best.
