The Cleveland Indians and Los Angeles Angels shoot for wins in early Sunday afternoon baseball.
The Angels looked like one of the teams that would make a run at the American League West, but that hasn't come to be. Having said that, it has come down to Los Angeles going on several prolonged winning streaks or this division will belong to either Texas or Oakland. The LAA won consecutive games after a 7-2 rout of Cleveland on Saturday. CJ Wilson held the Indians to two runs on seven hits and four BB through 5.1 frames and the bats took care of the rest. The Angels rapped out ten hits and walked five times, with JB Shuck pacing the attack with a pair of RBI's. The Angels give the ball to Jerome Williams who looks to control the Cleveland attack on Sunday. Williams is coming in off of a 5-2 loss to Texas in which he gave up all five runs in 5.1 innings pitched.
To put things in perspective from a Cleveland point of view, the past week has not been a good one and they might be in trouble. A week ago the Indians were challenging Detroit for supremacy in the American League Central, but six straight defeats including four in a row to the Tigers have the Tribe reeling in a big way. Neither the bats or arms could stop the bleeding versus the Angels Saturday, with Ubaldo Jimenez allowing three runs (two earned) through 6.1 frames before Bryan Shaw and Cody Allen let this get out of reach with three runs plated in 1.1 innings pitched. The bats totaled seven hits and walked four times, with Drew Stubbs and Michael Bourn driving in runs. Ace Justin Masterson toes the rubber Sunday against the dangerous lineup of the Angels. Masterson needs to bounce back from a 5-2 defeat to Detroit in which he was tagged for all five runs in seven frames.
The bottom line for me is the Indians have the right man on the mound and should be able to score so a loss here might mean the beginning of the end. It's do or die time and I'm not confident...
