FS-1, SportsTime Ohio, YES
The New York Yankees and the Cleveland Indians meet in game two of their three game set in MLB action from Progressive Field on Saturday.
The New York Yankees will look to rebound after dropping the series opener on Friday by a final score of 5-2. Aaron Hicks had a solo home run while Clint Frazier went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI to round out the Yankees’ scoring as a team in the loss. Didi Gregorius went 2 for 4 while Gary Sanchez added a base hit of his own as the Yankees had just six hits as a team in the losing effort. Domingo German took the loss, falling to 9-2 on the year after allowing four runs on six hits while striking out six over six innings of work. CC Sabathia will start game two and is 3-2 with a 3.61 ERA and 42 strikeouts this season. In his career, Sabathia is 4-3 with a 3.57 ERA and 70 strikeouts against Cleveland.
The Cleveland Indians will look to build momentum after their series opening win on Friday. Carlos Santana and Jason Kipnis each had two RBIs with Santana hitting a home run while Kipnis went 2 for 3 at the dish. Tyler Naquin had a solo home run to round out Cleveland’s scoring as a team in the loss while Oscar Mercado had two hits and Francisco Lindor added a triple as the Tribe had seven hits as a team in victory. Zach Plesac got the win to improve to 1-1 on the year after allowing two runs on six hits while striking out five over seven innings of work for his first major league victory. Brad Hand struck out the side in the 9th for his 19th save of the season. Adam Plutko will start game two and is 1-1 with a 6.35 ERA and 7 strikeouts this season. This will be Plutko’s first career start against the Yankees.
New York is 46-20 in Sabathia’s last 66 starts against the AL Central and 38-14 in their last 52 Saturday games while the under is 8-2-1 in their last 11 games overall. Cleveland is 2-5 in their last 7 games following a win and 14-5 in their last 19 games against the AL East while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 Saturday games. New York is 5-2 in Sabathia’s last 7 road starts against Cleveland.
The plus money with Cleveland is tempting considering that the Indians’ bats woke up in game one and Sabathia has been hittable in his last couple of starts. However, Plutko has just 11.1 innings under his belt this season and is coming off of an outing in which he allowed seven runs in less than six innings against Tampa Bay. Say what you want about New York, they may be banged up, but this Yankees team can still put runs on the board and can slug it out with the best of them. I just think New York against Plutko seems like a recipe for a Yankee victory, so I’ll lay the juice with the Yankees on the road here.
