The Cincinnati Reds and the Colorado Rockies will match up on the MLB diamond Friday to kick off their series.

The Reds are sitting at 41-46 on the season overall, with a 17-25 road record. Cincinnati is 5-5 across their last 10 games.

Sonny Gray will take the hill for the Reds in the Friday opener. Gray is 5-5 this season with a 3.59 ERA and 103 strikeouts.

Over on the Rockies’ side, they’re 44-45 this season and 24-19 at Coors Field. Colorado has lost seven of their last 10 games however.

Colorado is making it a dual Gray day with Jon Gray as their starter in this one. Gray is 9-6 this season with a 3.92 ERA and 115 Ks to his credit.

The Reds are 1-5 in their last six after an off day and 5-0 in Gray’s last five starts. Cincinnati is 1-5 in Gray’s last six starts versus a team with a losing record and 17-35 in their last 52 road games versus a right-handed starter.

Meanwhile, the Rockies are 2-5 in their last seven home games and 1-4 in their last five in game one of a series. Colorado is 4-0 in Gray’s last four home starts and 4-1 in his last five starts.

Sonny Gray was an NL All-Star this year but didn’t have to pitch in the exhibition game. He’s coming off his best outing of the year on July 3, with eight innings, four hits, one walk and 12 strikeouts.

As for Jon Gray, he’s got a tidy 44:17 K:BB ratio at home, which is weird considering he pitches at Coors. He’s still doing well there however, and I like the Rockies to eke out a relatively lower-scoring game here.

Pick:
Colorado Rockies -128
