We have some MLB action from Coors Field on Thursday as the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Colorado Rockies kick off a four game NL West division set.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to rebound after settling for a series split with the Oakland A’s following a 3-2 loss in the series finale on Wednesday. Yasmani Grandal belted a solo homer while Chris Taylor added an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for the Dodgers in the loss. Cody Bellinger went 2 for 4 and Manny Machado added a double while Justin Turner and Max Muncy each chipped in a base hit in the losing effort. Clayton Kershaw gave up two runs on six hits over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision while JT Charges took the loss to fall to 2-3 this season. Ross Stripling will start game one and is 8-3 with a 2.68 ERA and 119 strikeouts this season. In his career, Stripling is 1-1 with a 2.88 ERA and 19 strikeouts against Colorado.
The Colorado Rockies will look to bounce back after losing the rubber match of their three game set with the Pirates by a final score of 4-3 on Wednesday. David Dahl led the Rockies with a home run and two RBIs while Ryan McMahon went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI to round out the scoring for Colorado in the win. Trevor Story went 2 for 4 with a double and Charlie Blackmon added two hits as well while DJ LeMahieu and starting pitcher German Marquez each contributed a base hit in the losing effort. Marquez took the loss on the mound, giving up three runs on ten hits while striking out ten over six innings of work. Tyler Anderson will start game one and is 6-4 with a 4.05 ERA and 121 strikeouts this season. In his career, Anderson is 3-3 with a 4.09 ERA and 41 strikeouts against the Dodgers.
Los Angeles is 4-0 in Stripling’s last 4 division starts and 17-4 in their last 21 series opening matchups while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 road games. Colorado is 2-7 in Anderson’s last 9 home starts and 2-5 in their last 7 games overall while the under is 5-2-1 in Anderson’s last 8 starts. Colorado is 1-6 in Anderson’s last 7 starts against the Dodgers.
Anderson has been solid this season and has a 1-0 record against the Dodgers this season. However, Anderson is also a sub-.500 pitcher at home this season and is coming off of a start in which he allowed seven runs in just four innings of work. Colorado has also lost four of Anderson’s last five starts. Stripling hasn’t been good since the all-star break, allowing nine runs in 8.2 innings over his last two starts. I think this game eclipses double digits so I’ll side with the over simply based on the pitching matchup.
