MLB | New York Mets (31-40) at Colorado Rockies (36-38)
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Mets and Colorado Rockies meet Thursday in MLB action at Coors Field.

The New York Mets need a victory here after losing 10 of their last 14 games. The Mets have allowed 22 runs in their last three games and six or more runs in five of their last nine games. The New York Mets have lost 11 straight games when allowing more than three runs. Offensively, Asdrubal Cabrera leads the Mets with 76 hits and 41 RBI while Amed Rosario and Brandon Nimmo have combined for 109 hits and 45 RBI. Steven Matz gets the ball, and he is 3-4 with a 3.31 ERA and 57 strikeouts this season. Matz is 0-3 with a 6.50 ERA and 14 strikeouts in his career against the Rockies.

The Colorado Rockies look for another victory after splitting their last eight games. The Rockies have scored 22 runs in their last three games and nine or more runs in four of their last six games. The Colorado Rockies have split their last 10 games when scoring more than three runs. Nolan Arenado leads the Rockies with 81 hits and 46 RBI while Charlie Blackmon and Trevor Story have combined for 152 hits and 90 RBI. Kyle Freeland gets the ball, and he is 6-6 with a 3.59 ERA and 73 strikeouts this season. Freeland is 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA and 12 strikeouts in his career against the Mets.

The Mets are 1-5 in their last 6 Thursday games, 2-6 in Matzs last 8 starts vs. National League West and 4-11 in Matzs last 15 starts with 4 days of rest. The Rockies are 1-8 in their last 9 home games, 3-7 in Freelands last 10 home starts and 1-4 in Freelands last 5 starts with 4 days of rest. The Mets are 2-6 in the last 8 meetings in Colorado, 1-5 in the last 6 meetings and 0-4 in Matzs last 4 starts vs. Rockies.

The New York Mets pitching staff has been getting rocked this month and it's been no different this series. Matz has been good this year, but in 59 career at bats against current Rockies, he's allowing a .373 batting average with three homers. Freeland has been pretty good at home this season where he has an ERA under three and an allowed batting average of .226, really imrpessive stuff pitching in Coors. I have to back the Colorado Rockies in this spot.
