The Philadelphia Phillies and the Colorado Rockies meet in game two of their three game set from Coors Field in MLB action on Tuesday.

The Philadelphia Phillies will look to bounce back after being taken down by a final score of 10-1 on Monday. Rhys Hoskins’ solo home run accounted for the lone run on the board for the Phillies in the loss, while Roman Quinn added a triple. Odubel Herrera, Carlos Santana and Cesar Hernandez each added a base hit as the Phils put up just five hits as a team in the losing effort. Zach Eflin took the loss, giving up five runs on five hits in just 2.2 innings of work to fall to 11-8 this season. Vince Velasquez will start game two and is 9-11 with a 4.59 ERA and 159 strikeouts this season. In his career, Velasquez is 2-0 with a 3.95 ERA and 29 strikeouts against Colorado.

The Colorado Rockies will look to take care of business on Tuesday and make a push for the playoffs after their win on Monday. David Dahl had a two run home run while Gerardo Parra went 3 for 4 with two RBIs of his own. Garrett Hampson added a double and an RBI while Jon Gray, Tony Wolters and Nolan Arenado each added an RBI in the victory. Trevor Story added a pair of doubles while Ian Desmond, Ryan McMahon, DJ LeMahieu and Charlie Blackmon each added a base hit to cap off Colorado’s offense in the victory. Gray got the win on the mound after allowing the one run on four hits while striking out seven over seven innings of work. Chad Bettis will start game two and is 5-2 with a 5.18 ERA and 77 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bettis is 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA and 22 strikeouts against Philadelphia.

Philadelphia is 0-8 in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record and 0-5 in their last 5 games overall while the over is 4-1 in Velasquez’s last 5 road starts. Colorado is 5-0 in their last 5 games against the NL East and 27-11 in their last 38 home games while the under is 21-9-1 in their last 31 home games. The over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.

Sometimes picking a side is as easy as coming down to which team needs the game more. We saw Colorado’s desperation come out as the offense came to life in game one and at the time that I’m posting this, the Dodgers are down meaning that the Rockies can gain some ground in the division race if the score holds up. Velasquez has been up and down, but in his last three starts, he’s allowed 11 runs in his last nine innings. The Rockies simply need to keep winning to have any shot at the postseason, and I think that happens again on Tuesday.

Colorado Rockies
