The Colorado Rockies and the San Francisco Giants face off on Saturday in game one of a double header in MLB action.
The Colorado Rockies rallied in the bottom of the ninth inning on Friday but couldn’t get all of the way out of the hole as they lost to the Giants. D.J. LeMahieu had two hits including a home run, Wilin Rosario had three hits, and Nick Hundley had two hits as the Rockies scored eight runs on 13 hits. Starting pitcher Kyle Kendrick allowed five hits and four runs while striking out four over 6.1 innings to not get a decision as Christian Bergman took the loss. For game one on Saturday the Rockies start Jordan Lyles who has allowed 45 hits and 22 earned runs while striking out 24 over 43.2 innings for a 2-4 record and a 4.53 ERA.
The San Francisco Giants nearly let a huge lead get away from them on Friday but they managed to stop the bleeding and get the win. Bran Belt and matt Duffy each had three hits including home runs and Buster Posey and Joe Panik each had two hits as the Giants scored 11 runs on 14 hits. Starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong allowed two hits and struck out five over 6.0 scoreless innings to not get a decision as Sergio Romo got the win and Sanitago Casilla earned the save. For game one on Saturday the Giants start Chris Heston who has allowed 51 hits and 20 earned runs while striking out 41 over 48.1 innings for a 3-3 record and a 3.72 ERA.
Colorado is 8-3 in their last 11 games one of a double-header, 1-5 in their last six Saturday games, and 3-13 in Lyles’ last 16 starts as an underdog. San Francisco 7-0 in their last seven games, 8-1 in game two of a series, and 8-2 in their last 10 Saturday games. San Francisco is 2-5 in their last seven games against Colorado.
The Rockies had all of the momentum to end Friday but the Giants are just the better team this season, at least right now, so I have to take them to get it done here.
