Chicago White Sox -109 / Detroit Tigers +119
The Chicago White Sox and the Detroit Tigers will meet up on the MLB diamond Thursday to kick off their weekend set.
The Sox just finished up with Kansas City this week. In the Wednesday game, The Royals managed a run in the 10th innings on the way to a 4-3 Sox loss.
For Thursday’s series opener, the White Sox will be going with RHP Ivan Nova in the start. Across his 15.1 innings and 0-2 mark this year, Nova has a 5.28 ERA with 11 Ks and three walks.
Over on the Tigers’ side, they fell on Thursday at well, this time to the Pirates. Detroit’s situation was similar, as the Pirates scored in the 10th innings for a 3-2 Tigers loss.
For Thursday’s game, Detroit will be sending out Tyson Ross in the start. Ross hasn’t lost a game in four starts and a relief appearance against the Sox but he’s been a little sketchy this year with a 1-2 record, a 3.50 ERA and 15 Ks.
The White Sox are 5-11 in the last 16 road games and 8-18 in the last 26 overall. Chicago is 2-9 in the last 11 Thursday games and 2-19 in their last 26 road games following a loss.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 4-0 in the last four versus a team with a losing record and 5-2 in the last seven Thursday games. Detroit is 1-4 in the last five home games and 0-5 in the last five overall.
Nova’s numbers this year are skewed by one bad start, during which he put up seven earned on seven hits in 2.1 innings. Aside from that, in Nova’s other two outings he’s allowed just two earned across 13.0 innings on 10 hits with one tough-luck loss—not too shabby.
I like Nova to keep it going here, but the Sox really, really need to score. I’m tentatively going with Chicago but it’ll be tight.
