The Houston Astros and the Detroit Tigers meet in the finale of their three game set in MLB action from Comerica Park on Wednesday night.

The Houston Astros will look to complete the sweep of the Tigers after taking game two in convincing fashion by a final score of 11-4 on Tuesday. Carlos Correa and Aledmys Diaz each had two hits and three RBIs, including a home run while Correa added a triple. Michael Brantley had a double and two RBIs while George Springer blasted a solo home run and Yuli Gurriel chipped in an RBI of his own in the win. Josh Reddick went 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles while Tony Kemp tripled and Alex Bregman chipped in a base hit as well. Wade Miley got the win to improve to 4-2 on the year after allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out five over six innings of work. Justin Verlander will start game three and is 6-1 with a 2.51 ERA and 68 strikeouts this season. In his career, Verlander is 1-1 with a 4.85 ERA and 22 strikeouts against Detroit.

The Detroit Tigers will look to rebound and salvage a win after dropping the first two games of the series, including Tuesday’s defeat. Ronny Rodriguez had a home run, a double and three RBIs while JaCoby Jones chipped in an RBI and Gordon Beckham added a triple. Nick Castellanos, Brandon Dixon and Niko Goodrum each had base hits as well in the losing effort for Detroit. Ryan Carpenter took the loss, falling to 0-2 on the year after allowing eight runs, seven earned, on nine hits while striking out five over four innings of work. Gregory Soto will start game three and is 0-1 with a 15.75 ERA and 1 strikeout this season. This will be Soto’s first career start against Houston.

Houston is 22-5 in Verlander’s last 27 road starts and 38-15 in their last 53 games against the AL Central while the under is 3-1-1 in their last 5 game three matchups. Detroit is 13-39 in their last 52 games against the AL West and 4-10 in their last 14 Wednesday games while the under is over is 4-1-2 in their last 7 games against the AL West. Houston is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.

There hasn’t been a line released for this game yet, but I’m expecting Houston to be a heavy favorite once again, but even still, I’m siding with Houston on the run line. JV has been a mixed bag in his first two starts against his former team, but he’s allowed one run or less in five of his last six starts. Soto on the other hand, got torched for seven runs in four innings in his major league debut against Minnesota, and to be frank, I have the red hot Astros on a completely different level than Minnesota right now. I expect Houston to get to Soto just like Minnesota did, which is why I’m taking Houston to win this game handily on Wednesday to complete the sweep.

Pick:
Houston -1.5
