The Detroit Tigers and the Kansas City Royals face off on Wednesday for the third game of their series in Detroit.

The Detroit Tigers entered their series with the Royals two games back in the AL Central and after winning on Tuesday they are tied for the lead. J.D. Martinez and Rajai Davis each hit home runs and Torii Hunter had two hits as the Tiers scored four runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Max Scherzer allowed seven hits and a run while striking out six over 6.2 innings to get the win and go to 16-5 for the season and Joe Nathan earned his 30th save. For Wednesday’s game the Tigers start Rick Porcello who has lost his last two starts. For the season Porcello has allowed 183 hits and 67 earned runs while striking out 110 over 183 innings for a 15-10 record and a 3.30 ERA.

The Kansas City Royals had the lead in the AL Central when they hit Detroit on Monday but after losing Tuesday they are now tied with the Tigers. On Tuesday Omar Infante had three hits and Norichika Aoki and Mike Moustakas each had two hits as the Royals scored two runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Jason Vargas allowed six hits and four earned runs while striking out six over 5.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 11-8 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Royals start James Shields who has won four of his last five decisions. For the season Shields has allowed 201 hits and 72 earned runs while striking out 156 over 200.1 innings for a 13-7 record and a 3.23 ERA.

Detroit is 4-1 in game three of a series, 5-1 against the AL Central, and 13-6 in Porcello’s last 19 starts. Kansas City is 10-2 in game three of a series, 5-3 in their last eight games, and 24-5min Shields’ last 29 road starts. Kansas City is 7-18 in their last 25 games in Detroit.

The Royals have really struggled in this series but with Shields going here they are  my play in this one.
