The Line: Detroit Tigers +185 / Los Angeles Angels -200 --- Over/Under: 9
Up at Comerica Park on Thursday, the Los Angeles Angels and the Detroit Tigers will be finishing up their MLB series.
The two teams split the first pair of games, then on Wednesday Detroit won 6-1.
For the Thursday game, the Angels are going with lefty Andrew Heaney. In his 46.2 innings and 2-3 record this year, Heaney has a 3.09 ERA with 51 Ks and 17 BBs.
Heading into Wednesday, Andrelton Simmons led the way for the Angels on 66 hits, 32 runs and 32 RBI. In game three, Simmons logged one hit.
Over on the Tigers’ side, they’re going with LHP Ryan Carpenter on Thursday. It was originally going to be Francisco Liriano here, but Carpenter will be making the injury start.
Coming into game three, Nick Castellanos was the top hitter for the Tigers on 65 hits, 28 runs and 28 RBI. In the Wednesday game, Castellanos put up three hits and an RBI.
The Angels are 1-4 in Heaney’s last five starts with five days’ rest and 4-11 in his last 15 starts. LA is also 1-6 in Heaney’s last seven road starts and 2-5 in his last seven road starts versus a team with a losing record.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 5-17 in their last 22 in game four of a series and 4-1 in their last five home games versus a left-handed starter. The over is 10-2-1 in Detroit’s last 13 in game four of a series and 38-17-1 in their last 56 Thursday games.
Heaney has been very solid over his five straight quality starts, allowing a total of five earned runs and no more than five hits in an outing. As for Carpenter, he may be an improvement over Liriano given the struggles Liriano was having. Still, I’ve got more confidence in Heaney right now, so I’m going with the Angels.
