MLB | New York Yankees (6-6) at Detroit Tigers (11-2)

The New York Yankees travel to the Motor City to face the Detroit Tigers for the first time in 2015.

The New York Yankees would like nothing then to make a move in the American League East and have been heading that way after sweeping Tampa Bay over the weekend. The Yankees have won three in a row after downing Tampa Bay 5-3 on Sunday with strong hitting and pitching. Michael Pineda  improved to 2-0 with all three runs plated on seven hits over 5.2 innings with four relievers finishing the job. The offense totaled eleven hits and six walks with Mark Texeira and Chase Headley drove in two runs each while Alex Rodriguez scored twice. Veteran left hander CC Sabathia opens the series on the mound with the Detroit Tigers. Sabathia is coming off of a 4-3 defeat at Baltimore where he was charged with all four runs on seven hits over seven frames.

No team has been has been as dominant in the opening weeks of the season as the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers are trouble when they get hot at the plate and when the pitching contributes they are unbeatable. We saw that first hand in Sunday’s 9-1 rout of the White Sox as the Tigers jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first and never looked back. Shane Greene upped his record to 3-0 with the lone run allowed  on five hits and four walks while the bats totaled 12 hits and a pair of bases on balls. Yoenis Cespedes swung the big bat with two long balls and six RBI’s with Victor Martinez going 3-3 with three runs. The Tigers send out Alfredo Simon to the hill in the series opener versus the Yankees. Simon was outstanding in a 1-0 victory versus Pittsburgh where he tossed a two hit shutout over eight innings.

The over is 7-1 in the Yankees last 8 on grass and 16-5 in their last 21 overall while the under is 8-3 in  New York’s last 11 Monday games. Detroit are 7-1 in their last 8 games as a favorite and 10-2 in their last 12 overall while going 10-2 in their last 12. Head to head the Yankees are 2-6 in their last 8 meetings in Detroit. I hate laying the juice but I’ll take the team that continues to win..

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
