The New York Yankees and the Detroit Tigers will kick off their MLB series on Tuesday.
The Yankees are coming out of a series versus the Red Sox. New York dropped the Friday game but managed wins on Saturday and Sunday. In the Monday finale, the Yankees won 5-0.
For the Tuesday opener, New York didn't initially announce a starter, so they'll probably use a combination of bullpen guys here.
Over on the Tigers’ side, they just finished up against the A’s. Detroit won the Friday installment of that set but fell 10-2 Saturday and 3-1 Sunday to lose the series.
In Tuesday’s game, Detroit is going with Edwin Jackson in the start. Across 57.0 innings and a 3-9 mark so far, Jackson has a 9.16 ERA with 42 Ks and 26 BBs.
The Yankees are 36-16 in their last 52 Tuesday games and 37-18 in their last 55 in game one of a series. The under is 4-0 in New York’s last four during game one of a series.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 17-38 in their last 55 Tuesday games and 6-20 in their last 26 in game one of a series. Detroit is 0-8 in their last eight after an off day and 0-4 in Jackson’s last four starts.
Jackson had a pretty good run early last month, but over his last four outings he’s given up 20 earned runs in 17.1 innings of work and gone 0-4 during that stretch. I don’t see him having a whole lot of success here if the Yankees bats start moving. I’m going New York.
