Detroit Tigers +128 / Oakland Athletics -138 O/U: 8.5
The Oakland A’s and the Detroit Tigers will meet up on the MLB diamond to continue their series on Friday.
In the Thursday opener, the A’s exploded for a 17-3 victory, scoring six runs in the third inning and four in the eighth as part of 16 hits on the day.
For Friday’s game, the A’s will be sending out Frankie Montas in the start. Over his 45.1 innings and 4-2 record this year, Montas has a 2.78 ERA with 42 Ks and 11 BBs.
There were at least a few different A’s players to choose from as the best performer in the Thursday game. Josh Phegly finished with four hits, two runs and four RBI, and Robbie Grossman had two hits, two runs and two RBI, to name a couple.
Over on the Tigers’ side, they’re going with Daniel Norris on Friday. Across 34.2 innings and a 2-1 mark so far, Norris has a 3.63 ERA with 26 Ks and 10 BBs.
No Tigers player had more than one hit on Thursday, while Niko Goodrum and Christin Stewart combined for an 0-for-7 day. Dawel Lugo provided the only three RBI for Detroit there.
The A’s are 6-0 in Montas’ last six starts in game two of a series and 4-1 in his last five starts versus the AL Central. Oakland is 1-4 in Montas’ last five road starts and the under is 5-2 in their last seven Friday games.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 0-7 in Norris’ last seven starts in game two of a series and 0-4 in his last four versus the AL West. Detroit is 15-37 in their last 57 Friday games and 17-36 in their last 63 in game two of a series.
Montas has gotten off to a great start this year, and four of his last six outings have been quality starts. In his last pair, Montas has three earned in 12.0 innings on 13 hits.
As for Norris, he’s coming off a quality start and hasn’t really had a genuinely bad outing since early April. I’m going to stick with the A’s and Montas here, though.
