The Oakland Athletics shoot for another win at Comerica Park against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday.
The Oakland Athletics looked to be dead in the water but seemed to have gradually turned things around a bit in the American League West. The Athletics remained hot with a 6-1 victory at Detroit on Wednesday for their 8th win in eleven contests. Ace Sonny Gray was at his best with a two hit shutout over eight frames and seven K’s to pick up the win. The A’s totaled seven hits and walked five times with Josh Reddick smacking a solo homer while Billy Burns hit a bases loaded triple. The Athletics end their series at Comerica Park with Jesse Hahn on the bump. Hahn continued to throw the ball well in a 5-3 loss to the Yankees with four runs scored (three earned) on seven hits over six frames.
The Detroit Tigers find themselves sitting third in the American League Central as they have yet to hit their stride. Following Wednesday’s loss the Tigers have dropped three in a row where with the arms and bats both struggling. Starter Anibal Sanchez was charged with four runs on five hits and four bases on balls through seven innings in a losing effort. The bats totaled four hits and walked once with Miguel Cabrera driving in Jose Iglesias in the 9th to avoid the shutout. Right hander Shane Greene will be looking to rebound from a pair of poor outings when he opposes Oakland for the second time. Greene is coming in off of an 8-6 loss at the Angels where he gave up seven runs on five homers in 1.2 innings.
Oakland are 1-10 in their last 11 Thursday games and the under is 5-1-2 in their last 8 games as an underdog while the Athletics are 4-9 in their last 13 road games. The under is 6-2 in Detroit’s last 8 overall and is 6-2 in their last 8 on grass. Oakland are 2-6 in the last 8 meetings and the over is 18-7-2 in the last 27 meetings in Detroit. I’m a bit leery backing the A’s because they don’t support Hahn…
