Detroit Tigers +125 / Philadelphia Phillies -135 O/U: 10.5
The Philadelphia Phillies and the Detroit Tigers will finish up their quick two-game set with a matchup on Wednesday.
In the Tuesday matchup, we had a 15-inning battle as the Phillies powered out a 3-2 win.
For Wednesday’s game, the Phillies will be sending out Vince Velasquez in the start. Across his 61.0 innings and 2-5 mark so far, Velasquez has a 4.87 ERA with 70 Ks and 24 BBs.
Over on the Tigers’ side, they’re going with Jordan Zimmerman in the start Wednesday. Over 56.1 innings and an 0-7 record so far, Zimmerman has a 7.51 ERA with 40 Ks and 19 BBs.
The Phillies are 1-5 in their last six in game two of a series and 1-5 in their last six Wednesday games. Philly is 8-20 in Velasquez’s last 28 road starts and 2-5 in his last seven starts.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 17-39 in their last 56 Wednesday games and 16-45 in their last 61 in game two of a series. Detroit is 7-19 in Zimmerman’s last 26 starts and 6-21 in his last 27 home starts.
Velasquez has been pretty spotty over his last three starts, allowing 10 earned runs on a total of 14.0 innings and 17 hits. He’s 0-1 in that time.
As for Zimmerman, he’s coughed up 20 earned runs across his last three starts in 11.0 innings over 28 hits.
This is going to be a “lesser of two evils situation,” as I’m not thrilled with either starter here. I’m going Phillies but really don’t have much interest in this one.
