Detroit Tigers +215 / Tampa Bay Rays -235 O/U: 8.5
The Tampa Bay Rays and the Detroit Tigers will meet up on the MLB circuit to kick off their series on Tuesday.
Tampa just finished up a stint against the Twins this past weekend. The Rays took game one of that set 14-3 on Thursday, but lost the other three games 5-3 (Friday), 6-2 (Saturday) and 9-7 (Sunday).
For the Tuesday opener, the Rays are going with Blake Snell in the start. Over his 61.2 innings and 3-4 record this year, Snell has a 3.06 ERA with 83 Ks and 17 BBs.
Over on the Tigers’ side, they just completed a set versus the Braves. Detroit won the opener of that one 8-2 on Friday, but lost the weekend game 10-5 Saturday and 7-4 on Sunday.
Detroit is sending out Ryan Carpenter in the start on Tuesday. Over 19.0 innings and an 0-2 record this year, Carpenter has a 7.58 ERA with 15 Ks and six walks.
The Ryas are 7-1 in their last eight Tuesday games and 14-4 in their last 18 in game one of a series. Tampa is 27-11 in their last 38 road games and 5-0 in Snell’s last five Tuesday starts.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 9-19 in their last 28 Tuesday games and 4-14 in their last 18 overall. Detroit is 2-11 in their last 13 after a loss and 1-4 in Carpenter’s last five starts.
Snell has had a few bumpy outings this year but for the most part he’s doing well. He’s also got three straight quality starts to his credit, with four earned given up in 18.2 innings during that stretch.
As for Carpenter, he started out pretty terrible stats-wise but in his last two starts he’s given up just three earned in 10.0 innings.
With Snell on the mound here I have to lean toward the Rays for the victory. That said, with the line so thick it’s not crazy to take Detroit on a value play.
