The Line: Arizona Diamondbacks +115 / Pittsburgh Pirates -125 --- Over/Under: 8.5
The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Pittsburgh Pirates face off on Saturday in game two of their MLB series.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have been a positive surprise the season but they fell to .500 on Friday with a loss to the Pirates. Ender Inciarte had two hits and Paul Goldschmidt and Mark Trumbo were among those getting hits as the Diamondbacks scored one run on seven hits. Starting pitcher Josh Collmenter allowed six hits and three runs while striking out three over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 1-3 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Diamondbacks start Rubby De La Rosa who has allowed 23 hits and 12 runs while striking out 17 over 18 innings for a 2-1 record and a 6.00 ERA.
The Pittsburgh Pirates moved to a game over .500 getting their third win in a row by winning in Arizona on Friday. Josh Harrison and Neil Walker each had two hits and Starling Marte added a hit as the Pirates scored four runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Gerit Cole allowed seven hits and a run while striking out seven to get the win and go to 3-0 for the season and Mark Melancon earned his fourth save. For Saturday’s game the Pirates start A.J. Burnett who has allowed 19 hits and four runs while striking out 16 over 18 innings for a 0-1 record and a 2.00 ERA.
Arizona is 7-1 following a loss, 4-9 at home against a team with a winning record, and 1-4 against a right-handed starter. Pittsburgh is 4-1 following a win, 5-2 as a favorite, and 3-9 in Burnett’s last 12 road starts. Pittsburgh has won seven of their last 10 games in Arizona.
Burnett runs hot and cold but I don’t like him enough tot take him as a road favorite in this spot so my pick is Arizona.
