The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies face off on Tuesday at Chase Field for game two of their MLB series of NL West teams.
The Arizona Diamondbacks battled back all night on Monday but they couldn’t catch the Rockies as they dropped game one of their series. Paul Goldschmidt had three hits, Mark Trumbo had two hits, and A.J. Pollock had a hit as the Diamondbacks scored four runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Chase Anderson allowed eight hits and five runs while striking out four over 5.1 innings to take the loss an fall to 0-1 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Diamondbacks start Archie Bradley who has allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out 12 over 18.2 innings for a 2-0 record and a 1.45 ERA.
The Colorado Rockies continue to be one of the more improved teams so far this season as they won in Arizona on Monday. Justin Morneau hit a home run, Corey Dickerson had three hits, and Charlie Blackmon had two hits as the Rockies scored five runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Tyler Matzek allowed five hits and two runs while striking out three over 5.0 innings to get the win and go to 2-0 for the season and John Axford earned his third save. For Tuesday’s game the Rockies start Kyle Kendrick who has allowed 29 hits and 18 earned runs while striking out 18 over 23.2 innings for a 1-2 record and a 6.85 ERA.
Arizona is 16-36 against a right-handed starter, 5-2 in game two of a series, and 0-5 in their last five home games. Colorado is 5-1 in their last six games, 7-0 on the road against a team with a losing record, and 14-42 in their last 56 road games. Colorado is 6-0 in their last six games against Arizona.
