USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco Giants and the Arizona Diamondbacks face off on Friday at AT&T Park in game two of their MLB series of NL West teams.

The San Francisco Giants are the defending World Series champions but they are off to a slow start including losing in extra innings to the Diamondbacks in Thursday. Brandon Crawford hit a home run, Joe Panik had three hits, and Buster Posey, Angel Pagan, and Matt Duffy each had two hits as the Giants scored six runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner allowed six hits and four runs while striking out four over 7.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Sergio Romo took the loss. For Friday’s game the Giants start Jake Peavy who allowed four hits and four runs and struck out five lasting just 4.0 innings taking the loss against the Padres in his first and only start this season.

The Arizona Diamondbacks battled for the win on Friday to get to .500 overall for the season. Paul Goldschmidt, Mark Trumbo, and A.J. Pollack each hit home runs as the Diamondbacks scored seven runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Archie Bradley allowed four hits and two runs while striking out four over 6.2 innings to not factor in the decision as Randall Delgado got the win. For Friday’s game the Diamondbacks start Josh Collmenter who has allowed 19 hits and seven earned runs while striking out five over 9.2 innings for an 0-2 record and a 6.52 ERA.

San Francisco is 1-4 in Friday games, 0-6 as a favorite, and 4-1 in Peavy’s last five home starts. Arizona is 18-35 in their last 53 games, 9-18 against the NL West, and 1-5 in Collmenter’s last six starts. Arizona is 5-11 in their last 16 games against San Francisco.

The total in this one is set at seven but I see that number being far too low and my free pick is the over. My stronger pick is on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App. As always my Premium Picks are available for individual purchase at Picks and Parlays
