The Line: San Francisco Giants -132 / Arizona Diamondbacks +122 --- Over/Under: 7.5
The San Francisco Giants and the Arizona Diamondbacks face off on Saturday for game three of their MLB series of NL West teams.
The San Francisco Giants are off to tough start to the season and it got even worse as they were stomped by the Diamondbacks on Friday. Joe Panik had to hits and Angel Pagan and Gregor Blanco had hits as the Giants failed to score on four hits. Starting pitcher Jake Peavy didn’t have it as he allowed eight hits and four runs while striking out two lasting just 3.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 0-2 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Giants start Christopher Heston who has allowed 10 hits and one earned run while striking out 10 over 13 innings for a 1-1 record and a 0.69 ERA.
The Arizona Diamondbacks won on Friday for the second time in a row against the Giants to raise their record to a game over .500 for the season. A.J. Pollack had four hits, David Peralta had three hits, and Jacob Lamb was among those players with two hits as the Diamondbacks scored nine runs on 18 hits. Starting pitcher Josh Collmenter allowed four hits and struck out two going the full nine innings in a shutout. For Saturday’s game the Diamondbacks start Rubby De La Rosa who has allowed 14 hits and nine runs while striking out 10 over 11.1 innings for a 2-0 record and 7.15 ERA.
San Francisco is 2-5 in game three of a series, 0-5 as a home favorite, and 0-7 against a right-handed starter. Arizona is 18-35 in their last 53 games, 9-18 against the NL West, and 17-38 in their last 55 road games. Arizona is 5-11 in the last 16 meetings of these two.
While their play has been discouraging I don’t see the Giants as bad as their play has represented and I look for them to bounce back and win here.
