The San Francisco Giants and the Arizona Diamondbacks face off on Sunday for game for of their MLB series on NL West teams.
The San Francisco Giants ended their losing skid on Saturday as the beat the Diamondbacks at AT&T Park. Brandon Crawford hit a home run, Joe Panik had three hits, and Buster Posey had two hits as the Giants scored four runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Chris Heston allowed five hits and one run while striking out six over 7.2 innings to get the win and go to 2-1 for the season and Santiago Casilla earned his fourth save. For Sunday’s game the Giants start Tim Hudson who has allowed 13 hits and three runs while striking out five over 13.1 innings for a 0-1 record and a 2.02 ERA.
The Arizona Diamondbacks won the first two games in their series with the Giants but they had no answers losing on Saturday. David Perlata hit a home run, Mark Trumbo had two hits, and Paul Goldschmidt had a hit as the Diamondbacks scored one run on six hits. Starting pitcher Rubby De La Rosa allowed nine hits and four runs, three earned, while striking out seven over 6.2 innings to take his first loss of the year and fall to 2-1. For Sunday’s game the Diamondbacks start Jeremy Hellickson who has allowed 16 hits ad eight runs while striking out eight over 11 innings for a 0-2 record and a 6.55 ERA.
San Francisco is 2-5 in their last seven Sunday games, 1-8 against the NL West, and 3-7 in Hudson’s last 10 home starts. Arizona is 5-1 following a loss, 17-39 in their last 56 road games, and 1-4 in their last five Sunday games. Arizona is 5-12 in their last 17 games against San Francisco.
I don’t love the way the Giants are playing but I have to give Hudson the edge on the hill and the Giants a slight edge to win the game.
