The Line: Houston Astros / Cleveland Indians --- Over/Under:
The Cleveland Indians and Houston Astros meet Saturday in game two of the MLB ALDS at Minute Maid Park.
The Cleveland Indians hope to tie up this series at 1-1 before leaving for game three on Monday. The Indians offense couldn’t get anything going until it was too late, and they’ve now been held to four or less runs in 10 of their last 15 games. The Cleveland Indians have the pitching staff to hang around with anyone and should be better than they were in game one, but if the offense doesn’t break out and get some easy production, this is going to be a quick postseason exit. Francisco Lindor leads the Indians with one hit and one run while Michael Brantley and Jose Ramirez have combined for one hit and one RBI. Carlos Carrasco gets the ball, and he is 17-10 with a 3.38 ERA and 231 strikeouts this season. Carrasco is 4-2 with a 3.45 ERA and 55 strikeouts in his career against the Astros. Carrasco is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA and seven strikeouts in his postseason career.
The Houston Astros have a chance to take a commanding 2-0 series lead and get one game away from another ALCS appearance. The Astros got great production from one of their aces, but the big bats came out to play and Houston has now scored four or more runs in 11 of their last 16 games. The Houston Astros are obviously one of the more balanced teams in the league, but when the big bats show up and homers are flying, there’s a completely different feel about this squad. George Springer leads the Astros with two hits and one RBI while Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman have combined for three hits and three RBI. Gerrit Cole gets the ball, and he is 15-5 with a 2.88 ERA and 276 strikeouts this season. Cole is 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA and 13 strikeouts in his career against the Indians. Cole is 1-2 with a 3.94 ERA and 14 strikeouts in his postseason career.
The Indians are 5-1 in their last 6 during game 2 of a series, 6-2 in Carrascos last 8 Saturday starts and 39-19 in Carrascos last 58 starts. The Astros are 7-0 in their last 7 Saturday games, 4-0 in Coles last 4 home starts and 24-8 in Coles last 32 starts. The Indians are 27-13 in the last 40 meetings and the over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.
The Indians have lost five of the last eight games Carrasco has pitched, but he's been really tough on the road where he has a 2.96 ERA and a batting average of .222. The Astros have won seven of the last eight games in which Cole has pitched, and he's allowing a 2.99 ERA with a .188 batting average at home this season. Throw in the way the Houston Astros have hit in the postseason not only in game one but also last year, you have to back the home team again. The balance is just unreal with these Astros, as the offense is swinging with confidence and they have an ace on the hill. You can't go wrong with the Astros in this spot.
