The Kansas City Royals and the Houston Astros will match up on Wednesday to finish this week’s MLB series.
In the Monday opener of this set, Houston secured a 6-4 victory. On Tuesday, Kansas City evened things up with a dominant 12-2 win.
For the Wednesday game, the Royals will be sending out Jorge Lopez. Over his 40.2 innings and 0-3 record so far this year, Lopez has a 5.09 ERA with 37 Ks and 14 BBs.
The Royals offense was cooking on Tuesday, and the team came up with 13 hits on the night. Whit Merrifield had a great night, ripping a grand slam, five RBI and three runs on a four-hit outing.
Over on the Astros’ side, they’re going with Brad Peacock in the start Wednesday. Across 30.2 innings and a 2-2 mark so far, Peacock has a 5.28 ERA with 26 Ks and nine walks.
The Astros couldn’t sustain much of anything in the Tuesday loss, as Michael Brantley was the only player on the team with more than one hit (two). Alex Bregman put up a solo homer as well.
The Royals are 4-0 in their last four Wednesday games and 12-46 in their last 58 in game three of a series. KC is 1-7 in Lopez’s last eight starts and 0-5 in his last five road starts.
Meanwhile, the Astros are 5-2 in their last seven in game three of a series and 54-25 in their last 79 Wednesday games. Houston is 4-1 in Peacock’s last five home starts and 7-3 in his last 10 starts overall.
Interestingly enough, Lopez has surrendered exactly four earned runs in each of his last four starts. He’s 0-2 during that time, though Lopez did make it through at least 6.0 innings in three of the four.
As for Peacock, he had a nice run of four starts, but imploded in Minnesota his last time up with seven earned on eight hits in 3.2 innings.
I like Peacock to bounce back here; he’s only got a couple of bad starts on his resume this season. I’m going Astros.
