The Los Angeles Angels and the Houston Astros will be continuing their weekend MLB series from Minute Maid Park on Friday.
In the Thursday opener, LA banged out a 5-2 win by scoring four runs in the sixth inning and out-hitting Houston 10-7.
On Friday, the Angels will be bringing out Jamie Barria. Over his 100.2 innings and 8-8 record this year, Barria has a 3.67 ERA with 77 Ks.
Leading the way for the Angels hitters this year is Andrelton Simmons, who came into this set on 133 hits, 57 runs and 60 RBI. In the opener, Simmons slapped three hits with three RBI.
For Friday’s game, the Astros will be going with Framer Valdez in the start. Across 9.1 innings and a 2-0 mark this year, Valdez has a 0.96 ERA with seven Ks and four walks.
The talented Jose Altuve led the Astros into this set on 144 hits, 69 runs, 10 homers and 51 RBI. In the Thursday game, Altuve posted two hits.
The Angels are 9-4 in their last 13 Friday games and 0-4 in their last four in game two of a series. The under is 8-2 in the Angels’ last 10 Friday games and 15-7-1 in their last 23 games versus a left-handed starter.
Meanwhile, the Astros are 27-11 in their last 38 Friday games and 35-16 in their last 51 in game two of a series. The under is 5-2 in Houston’s last seven Friday games and they’re 7-2 in their last nine overall.
There’s not much to go on statistically when it comes to Valdez, but what we do have is pretty darn great. It’ll be Valdez’s second career start, following 4.1 innings of relief in his Major League debut and one run on two hits in five innings on Sunday. I’m going to jump right on the bandwagon here and stick with Valdez to get another Astros win.
