Houston Astros -160 / Oakland Athletics +150
The Oakland Athletics and the Houston Astros will match up on the MLB circuit Friday as they open their series.
In the A’s series finale victory over Boston Thursday, Stephen PIscotty led the way on five RBI, four hits and a run. Brett Anderson did most of the heavy lifting on pitching for the A’s in the 7-3 win with 5.1 innings, eight hits and three earned. The pen shut things down the rest of the way.
For the Friday game, the A’s will be sending out RHP Frankie Montas. In his first action of the year, Montas put up a win over the Angels with 6.0 innings, three hits one earned and six strikeouts on the day.
Leading the way for the Astros’ hitters this year is George Springer with eight hits, three runs, two homers and five RBI. Jose Altuve is currently at one solo homer, two runs and six his so far.
For Friday’s game, the Astros are sending out RHP Collin McHugh. In his first start this year, McHugh put up 5.0 innings, three hits and two runs in a loss in Tampa Bay.
The A’s are 6-2 in their last eight Friday games and 5-1 in Montas’ last six starts. Oakland is 4-0 in Montas’ last four road starts versus a team with a losing record and the over is 6-2 in their last eight in game one of a series.
Meanwhile, the Astros are 6-1 in their last seven after an off day and 43-20 in the last 63 in game one of a series. Houston is 31-10 in McHugh’s last 41 home starts and 6-2 in his last eight starts.
Montas was really good in his first start this year, and that’ll go a long way toward forgetting his three-game slump at the end of the season in 2018 (10 earned; 15.1 innings and an 0-2 mark).
McHugh didn’t exactly impress, but he wasn’t awful either and will have to take some time relearning the starter role.
In any case, I like Montas enough that I can take a chance on the A’s here.
