On Thursday from Minute Maid Park, the Oakland Athletics and the Houston Astros will be finishing up their MLB series.

The A’s took a 2-0 win on Monday in the opener, then a bizarre end-game miscue got the Astros a 6-5 win Tuesday. On Wednesday, Oakland came through with an 8-3 win.

For the Thursday game, the A’s will be bringing out RHP Trevor Cahill. In his 48.2 innings and 1-2 mark this year, Cahill has a 2.77 ERA with 47 Ks and 11 BBs.

Jed Lowrie leads the way for the A’s this year on 101 hits, 41 runs, 16 homers and 62 RBI coming into game three. On Wednesday, Lowrie had two hits and a run.

Over on the Astros’ side, they’re going with Charlie Morton on Thursday. Across 108.0 innings and an 11-2 mark this year, Morton has a 2.83 ERA with 141 Ks and 43 BBS.

Houston’s top hitter is of course Jose Altuve, who entered Wednesday on 124 hits, 61 runs and 44 RBI. In game three, Altuve had a hit and a run.

The A’s are 5-1 in their last six Thursday games and 4-1 in their last five in game four of a series. Oakland is 0-4 in Cahill’s last four starts and 1-4 in his last five starts versus a team with a winning record.

Meanwhile, the Astros are 10-1 in their last 11 Thursday games and 6-1 in Morton’s last seven home starts. Houston is 1-5 in Morton’s last six starts with four days rest and 5-1 in his last six starts.

Cahill had a run of pretty good starts going in April and May, then in his last start back on June 2 he put up 4.2 innings with four earned on seven hits. As for Morton, he blew a run of four quality starts his last time up with 5.2 innings and five earned against the White Sox—but still won that game. In any case, I can’t find a lot of reasons not to pick the Astros here.
