|Date & Time||Monday August 27, 2018, 8:10 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Houston Astros -188 / Oakland Athletics +177 --- Over/Under: 8.5
The Oakland Athletics will meet the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park to kick off their MLB set on Monday.
The A’s just finished up a weekend set against the Twins. After taking two of the first three games, in the Sunday finale the A’s banged out a 6-2 victory.
For Monday’s game, the Athletics will be bringing out lefty Brett Anderson. Across his 62.1 innings and 3-3 mark this year, Anderson has a 3.47 ERA with 33 Ks and 12 BBs.
Leading the way for the A’s on offense is Marcus Semien, who entered the week on 136 hits, 74 runs, 10 homers and 46 RBI. In the Sunday game Semien was 0-for-4.
Over on the Astros’ side, they just completed a series versus the Angels. Houston took the first two games 9-3 and 8-3, then in the Sunday finale the Astros scored three times in the third and cruised to a 3-1 win.
On Monday Houston will be rolling with Gerrit Cole. In his 164.2 innings and 11-5 mark this year, Cole has a 2.73 ERA with 226 Ks and 52 BBs.
Houston’s star hitter is the talented Jose Altuve, who came out of the week on 140 hits, 68 runs, 10 homers and 49 RBI. On Sunday Altuve had one hit.
The A’s are 6-0 in their last six Monday games and 1-4 in Anderson’s last five starts following a quality start in his last appearance. The over is 4-0 in Oakland’s last four Monday games and the under is 5-0 in Anderson’s last five starts overall.
Meanwhile, the Astros are 1-4 in their last five in game one of a series and 1-4 in their last five Monday games. The under is 11-4-1 in Houston’s last 16 in game one of a series and 29-11-1 in their last 41 Monday games.
It’s been a pretty nice run for Anderson lately. He has three quality starts in his last four outings, and in those games he’s allowed zero earned over 21.2 innings on a paltry eight hits. Trouble is, Anderson has just one win in his last five starts, even though he’s pitched really well. All things considered, this should be an awesome series and the A’s just might draw first blood here.
