The Seattle Mariners and the Houston Astros will meet up on the MLB circuit to close out their series on Sunday.
In the Friday opener of this set, the Astros eked out a 2-1 win. On Saturday, Houston kept the one-run flow going with a 6-5 walk-off win.
For Sunday’s game, the Mariners will send out Marco Gonzales for the start. in his 101.2 innings and 9-6 mark so far, Gonzales has a 4.34 ERA with 71 Ks and 28 BBs.
Seattle put up seven hits on Saturday. the only player with two hits was Daniel Vogelbach, who also knocked a solo homer in the seventh.
Over on the Astros’ side, they’re going with Gerrit Cole in the start Sunday. Across 102.2 innings and a 7-5 record so far, Cole has a 3.42 ERA with 151 Ks and 27 BBs.
Houston spread out their eight hits pretty evenly on Saturday. George Springer was the only hitter with two knocks, and also provided an RBI.
The Mariners are 4-9 in their last 13 in game three of a series and 4-0 in Gonzales’ last four starts. Seattle is 0-4 in Gonzales’ last four Sunday starts and 7-3 in his last 10 road starts.
Meanwhile, Houston is 0-4 in their last four in game three of a series and 18-4 in Cole’s last 22 home starts. The Astros are 36-15 in Cole’s last 51 starts and 6-2 in his last eight versus the AL West.
After coughing up 10 earned in 4.2 innings to start the month, Gonzales has calmed down with seven earned in 24.1 innings over his last four outings.
As for Cole, he’s been on quite a run lately with six straight quality starts. In that time Cole has given up just nine earned and hit double-figure strikeouts three times.
This should be a good pitching matchup and a low-scoring game—at least early on. I like Cole to keep it going and get Houston a win here.
