Out at Minute Maid Park on Saturday, the Seattle Mariners and the Houston Astros will be matching up on the MLB diamond.
In the Thursday opener, the Mariners powered out an 8-6 win. On Friday, Seattle made it two straight with a 5-2 victory.
For the Saturday game, the Mariners will be bringing out lefty Wade LeBlanc. In his 113.1 innings and 6-2 record this year, LeBlanc has a 3.81 ERA with 89 Ks and 23 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Mariners this year is Jean Segura, who came into Friday on 137 hits, 77 runs and 55 RBI. In game two, Segura had a run.
Over on the Astros’ side, they’re going with Charlie Morton on Saturday. Across 131.1 innings and a 12-2 record, Morton has a 2.81 ERA with 167 Ks and 53 BBs.
Entering game two, Jose Altuve led the Astros on 134 hits, 64 runs and 46 RBI. In his Friday outing, Altuve sat out but Marwin Gonzalez put up three hits.
The Mariners are 0-5 in their last five Saturday games and 9-1 in LeBlanc’s last 10 starts with four days’ rest. Seattle is 5-1 in LeBlanc’s last six starts in game three of a series and 19-7 in his last 26 starts.
Meanwhile, the Astros are 4-1 in their last five Saturday games and 1-5 in their last six in game three of a series. Houston is 6-2 in Morton’s last eight home starts and 7-3 in his last 10 starts.
Last time he faced the Astros on August 1, LeBlanc was lit up for seven earned on 10 hits in 4.1 innings—that was the only game out of his last four that he hasn’t registered a quality start. As for Morton, he’s sitting on three straight quality starts, giving up a total of four earned runs between them. I’m going Astros here.
