Houston Astros -200 / Seattle Mariners +185 O/U: 10
The Seattle Mariners and the Houston Astros will meet up on the MLB diamond to continue their series on Saturday.
In the opener of this set on Friday, the Astros jumped out to a 9-0 lead and held on for a dominant 10-2 win.
For Saturday’s game, the Mariners will be sending out lefty Marco Gonzales in the start. Across his 134.2 innings and 12-8 mark this year, Gonzales has a 4.21 ERA with 99 Ks and 33 BBs.
Seattle logged just three hits in the Friday loss. Daniel Vogelbach notched a two-run homer in the sixth, but that was about it for the offense there.
Over on the Astros’ side, they’re going with Aaron Sanchez Saturday. Sanchez is 3-14 with a 6.07 ERA and 99 Ks this year.
Houston slapped 12 hits in the win Friday. George Springer led the team with a 4-for-5 line and a run.
The Mariners are 7-19 in their last 26 in game two of a series and 3-13 in their last 16 Saturday games. Seattle is 4-0 in Gonzales’ last four Saturday starts and 7-2 in his last nine starts.
Meanwhile, the Astros are 37-14 in their last 51 Saturday games and 14-3 in their last 17 home games versus a lefty starter. Houston is 52-25 in their last 77 in game two of a series and they’re 4-0 in Gonzales’ last four starts against them.
Over his last nine starts, Gonzales is 7-2 with a 3.30 ERA, but that comes with an asterisk as one of his losses came against the Astros on June 30. Gonzales gave up six hits and three runs in five innings there.
As for Sanchez, this will be his Astros debut and a chance to return to All-Star form. It may take him a little while to get acclimated and work out the kinks, so Gonzales and the Mariners make more sense to me here.
