The Line: Houston Astros -280 / Texas Rangers +255 --- Over/Under: 8.5
Coming up Sunday from Minute Maid Park, the Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros will be finishing up their MLB set.
The Rangers eked out a 1-0 victory in the opener on Friday. In Saturday’s game, the Astros secured a 6-1 win.
For the Sunday game, the Rangers will be bringing out lefty Matt Moore. Over his 35.0 innings and 1-4 record this year, Moore has a 7.71 ERA with 23 Ks and 15 BBs.
Heading into the weekend, the Rangers’ leading hitter was Nomar Mazara with 44 hits, 23 runs, 10 homers and 26 RBI. On Saturday, Mazara whiffed 0-for-4.
As for the Astros, they’re going with LHP Dallas Keuchel on Sunday. In his 51.0 innings and 2-5 record this year, Keuchel has a 3.53 ERA with 37 Ks and 14 BBs.
Jose Altuve led the Astros offense coming into the weekend with 52 hits, 23 runs, two homers and 17 RBI. On Saturday, Altuve went 0-for-4.
The Rangers are 3-8 in their last 11 games versus a left-handed starter and 2-5 in Moore’s last seven starts. Texas is also 2-5 in Moore’s last six starts on grass and 5-15 in their last 20 Sunday games.
Meanwhile, the Astros are 5-2 in their last seven in game three of a series and 5-2 in their last seven Sunday games. Houston is also 4-1 in Keuchel’s last five Sunday starts and 36-15 in his last 51 home starts.
It’s been a rough couple of starts for Moore, who has allowed 15 earned on 20 hits over his last two starts and 9.2 innings. Moore is certainly a better pitcher than that, but for my purposes here I’m sticking with the safer option and that’s Keuchel. It's a thick line, but I’ll take Houston.
