The Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros will be kicking off their MLB series on Thursday.

The Rangers are coming off a quick two-game set versus the Pirates. Texas fell in a tough one 5-4 on Tuesday in the opener, then in Wednesday’s game the Rangers evened it up with a 9-6 win.

For the Thursday game, the Rangers will be sending out lefty Mike Minor in the start. Over his 48.2 innings across a 3-2 record this year, Minor has a 2.40 ERA with 48 Ks and 14 walks.

Over on the Houston side, they just finished up against the Royals this week. Houston took Monday’s game 6-4, then were blown out 12-2 on Tuesday. In the Wednesday game Houston got another win 9-0, out-hitting KC 11-3 on the night.

For Thursday’s game, the Astros will be sending out Wade Miley. Over a 2-2 record this year, Miley has a 3.20 ERA with 23 strikeouts to his credit.

The Rangers are 0-6 in their last six in game one of a series and 1-5 in Minor’s last six starts with five days’ rest. Texas is 0-4 in Minor’s last four starts in game one of a series and 7-2 in his last nine versus the AL West.

Meanwhile, the Astros are 35-16 in their last 51 in game one of a series and 1-6 in their last seven Thursday games. Houston is 10-3 in their last 13 versus the AL West and the under is 4-1 in their last five Thursday games.

Minor really only has two off games this year, one in his debut against the Cubs (4.2 innings; five hits; six earned) and the other in Oakland April 22 (6.0 innings; four hits; four earned) but aside from that he’s been really good this year with five quality starts yielding just three earned runs combined.

I like Minor to come out hot again here and help put the Rangers in position to get a win.
