Kansas City Royals +150 / Boston Red Sox -160 O/U: 10
The Boston Red Sox and the Kansas City Royals will match up on the MLB diamond to kick off their series on Tuesday.
Boston is coming off a weekend set against their main rival the Yankees. The Red Sox fell 4-1 and 5-3 in the first two games of that set, but stopped the sweep with an 8-5 win Sunday.
For the Tuesday game, the Sox will be sending out Eduardo Rodriguez in the start. In his 60.2 innings and 5-3 record this year, Rodriguez has a 5.04 ERA with 66 Ks and 20 BBs.
Over on the Royals’ side, they’re fresh off a series versus the Rangers. KC took the Thursday opener there 4-2, but then fell 6-2 Friday, 6-2 Saturday and 5-1 Sunday to lose the set.
On Tuesday, KC will be bringing out Glen Sparkman in the starting role. Across his 25.2 innings and 1-1 record this year, Sparkman has a 4.21 ERA with 17 Ks and seven walks.
The Red Sox are 1-4 in their last five overall and 2-8 in their last 10 Tuesday games. Boston is 9-2 in Rodriguez’s last 11 Tuesday starts and 14-4 in his last 18 road starts.
Meanwhile, the Royals are 4-1 in their last five after an off day and 34-71 in their last 105 after a loss. KC is 1-4 in their last five home games and 2-5 in their last seven Tuesday games.
Rodriguez had a couple of bad starts (11.0 innings; 15 hits; 11 earned) in May but finished strong with 6.0 innings, four hits and one earned in Houston his last time out.
As for Sparkman, his last start was a road game against the White Sox, and he lasted just 1.0 innings and gave up four earned on three hits.
This is a good series for the Sox to get their proverbial mojo back, and I think they will take a big step here if Rodriguez can come out strong. I’m going Boston.
