Kansas City Royals +135 / Boston Red Sox -145 O/U: 10
The Boston Red Sox and the Kansas City Royals will meet up on the MLB diamond to finish their series on Thursday.
Boston won the first game of this set 8-3 Tuesday, then in Wednesday’s game, the Red Sox continued pounding with an 8-0 shutout win.
For the Thursday matchup, the Red Sox will be sending out Ryan Weber for the start. Weber has a 1-1 mark so far, with a 4.50 ERA and 13 Ks to his credit over six appearances.
Boston logged 11 hits in the Wednesday win, and cruised thanks to some nice offensive performances. Rafael Devers helped out the cause with three runs and three RBI there.
Over on the Royals’ side, they’re going with Danny Duffy on Thursday. Across his 40.0 innings and 3-2 record this year, Duffy has a 4.05 ERA with 33 Ks and 14 BBs.
KC could muster just three hits in the Wednesday loss, and coughed up four runs in the fifth inning alone. No Royals player had a multi-hit evening; Whit Merrifield went 1-for-3 in an outing symbolic of the KC woes this year.
The Red Sox are 54-15 in their last 69 in game three of a series and 8-3 in their last 11 Thursday games. The over is 5-0-1 in Boston’s last six Thursday games and 7-3 in their last 10 in game three of a series.
Meanwhile, KC is 4-1 in Duffy’s last five starts and 5-11 in his last 16 home starts. The Royals are 1-4 in Duffy’s last five Thursday starts and 4-10 in his last 14 in game three of a series.
Aside from a few bumps in the road here and there, Duffy has been solid this season overall. He had a span of four quality starts in five tries last month, with a combined five earned allowed in that quartet.
That said, Duffy had some issues in Texas his last time up with six earned in 5.1 innings. He should get it back and pitch well Thursday; if you’re going to pick KC in this series, the spot is probably here.
