The Line: Kansas City Royals +171 / Chicago Cubs -181 --- Over/Under: 9.5
Over at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday, the Chicago Cubs and the Kansas City Royals will be picking up their MLB series once again.
In the Monday opener, the Cubs came back from a 1-0 deficit to score three unanswered for a 3-1 win.
For the Tuesday game, the Cubs will be sending out southpaw Mike Montgomery. In his 92.1 innings and 3-4 record this year, Montgomery has a 3.90 ERA with 56 Ks and 29 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Cubs this year is Javier Baez, entering this series on 122 hits, 70 runs, 24 homers and 86 RBI. On Monday, Baez had a solo homer and two RBI.
As for the Royals, they’re going with Brad Keller on Tuesday. Across 82.1 innings and a 4-4 mark this year, Keller has a 3.39 ERA with 54 Ks and 35 BBS.
KC’s lead hitter is Whit Merrifield, who came into this set on 129 hits, 54 runs and 37 RBI. In the opener, Merrifield went hitless.
The Cubs are 14-5 in their last 19 in game two of a series and 0-4 in Montgomery’s last four starts. Chicago is also 0-5 in Montgomery’s last five starts and 5-1 in his last six road starts versus a team with a losing record.
Meanwhile, the Royals are 6-1 in their last seven in game two of a series and 3-7 in Keller’s last 10 starts. KC is also 3-7 in Keller’s last 10 starts on grass and 2-5 in his last seven starts versus a team with a winning record.
Montgomery had a bad outing versus the Cards (five earned on 12 hits in 5.0 innings) but bounced back well with one earned in 5.1 in his next start. As for Keller, he’s got two quality starts in his last three games, and is 2-0 in that span. I don’t think he’ll be able to contain the Cubs’ bats so well however, so I’m going Chicago here.
