The Cleveland Indians and the Kansas City Royals will continue their weekend MLB series on Friday.

In the Thursday opener of this set, we had a lengthy game in a 14-inning marathon. Cleveland finally broke through with two runs in the top of the 14th to break a 3-3 tie. Kansas City responded with one run in the bottom of the inning but couldn’t get it done; the Indians prevailed 5-4.

For Friday’s game, the Indians will be bringing out Zach Plesac for the start. Across his 54.0 innings and 4-3 record this season, Plesac has a 3.50 ERA with 40 Ks and 20 BBs.

Over on the Royals’ side, they’re going with Jakob Junis in the start Friday. Over 119.1 innings and a 6-8 record this year, Junis has a 4.83 ERA with 115 Ks and 43 BBs.

The Indians are 4-0 in Plesac’s last four starts versus the AL Central and 5-1 in his last six starts. Cleveland is 4-1 in Plesac’s last five starts with four days’ rest and 4-1 in his last five versus a team with a losing record.

Meanwhile, the Royals are 4-0 in their last four in game two of a series and 4-9 in their last 13 Friday games. KC is 2-5 in Junis’ last seven starts in game two of a series and 2-5 in his last seven home starts.

Plesac had a string of three starts where he didn’t make it past 3.2 innings for a total of nine earned in 7.1 innings, but did get a win and a quality outing (6.0 innings; two earned) his last time up.

As for Junis, he’s riding a string of three straight quality starts, with three earned in 20.0 innings during that time. I like Junis to keep it going here so it seems like a nice spot to take the Royals.
