The Cleveland Indians and the Kansas City Royals will match up on the MLB diamond to continue their series on Saturday.
The Indians took game one of this set in a lengthy 5-4 victory on Thursday. In the Friday game two, Cleveland did it again with an 8-3 win.
For Saturday’s game, the Indians will be sending out Mike Clevinger for the start. Across his 42.1 innings and 4-2 mark so far, Clevinger has a 3.61 ERA with 65 Ks and 15 BBs.
Cleveland slapped 13 hits in the Friday win. The Indians’ top performers were Francisco Lindor and Tyler Naquin, combining for six hits, three runs and two RBI.
Over on the Royals’ side, they’re going with Glen Sparkman in the start on Saturday. Over 79.0 innings and a 3-6 record this year, Sparkman has a 4.67 ERA with 43 Ks and 20 BBs.
Kansas City’s hitters logged nine knocks on Friday but couldn’t get much going on the scoreboard. Bubba Starling would finish with a 2-for-4 line and a run.
The Indians are 59-27 in their last 86 in game three of a series and 4-1 in Clevinger’s last five starts in game three of a series. Cleveland is 9-3 in Clevinger’s last 12 Saturday starts and 13-6 in his last 19 starts.
Meanwhile, the Royals are 18-60 in their last 78 in game three of a series and 2-10 in their last 12 Saturday games. KC is 5-2 in Sparkman’s last seven home starts and 3-7 in his last 10 starts.
Clevinger has been in a nice groove over his last four starts. In that span, he’s got three quality starts, three wins and a total of five earned in 24.0 innings of work.
As for Sparkman, he’s been pretty sketchy outside of his complete-game shutout July 16, with 21 earned in the other four of his last five games.
I like Clevinger to keep it going here so I’m going Indians.
