|Date & Time||Thursday September 27, 2018, 8:15 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Kansas City Royals +135 / Cleveland Indians -160 --- Over/Under: 9.5
The Cleveland Indians and the Kansas City Royals will be kicking off their MLB series on Thursday from Kauffman Stadium.
The Indians are coming off a set against the White Sox. Cleveland split the first two games of that series, then on Wednesday the Indians took a big 10-2 win.
For the Thursday game, the Indians are sending out RHP Josh Tomlin. In his 65.2 innings and 2-5 record this year, Tomlin has a 6.44 ERA with 41 Ks and 12 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Indians this year is Francisco Lindor, with 178 hits, 124 runs, 36 homers and 89 RBI entering the Sox finale. On Wednesday, Lindor hit a solo homer.
Over on the Royals’ side, they just finished up against the Reds. After winning 4-3 on Tuesday, in game two Wednesday KC peppered in runs all game on the way to a 6-1 win.
On Thursday, the Royals will be sending out Glenn Sparkman. Across his 33.1 innings and 0-3 mark this year, Sparkman has a 4.86 ERA with 25 Ks.
KC’s lead hitter is Whit Merrifield, who came into the Reds finale on 185 hits, 86 runs, 12 homers and 58 RBI. On Wednesday, Merrifield had a hit and a run.
The Indians are 46-18 in their last 64 Thursday games and 0-4 in Tomlin’s last four starts in game one of a series. Cleveland is 0-6 in Tomlin’s last six starts and 0-6 in his last six starts on grass.
Meanwhile, the Royals are 7-3 in their last 10 in game one of a series and 5-14 in their last 19 Thursday games. The over is 3-1-1 in the Royals’ last five Thursday games and the under is 3-1-1 in their last five home games following a road trip of a week or more.
Tomlin’s last two starts have gone pretty “meh,” as he’s put up 8.0 innings with six earned on 13 hits. It’s worth noting that Tomlin did have a good relief outing against Boston in his last appearance, with zero earned on one hit in 2.0 frames. Still, I don’t trust Tomlin to stay in this game for too long, so I think I’ll take the Royals on a value pick here.
