The Line: Kansas City Royals +175 / Cleveland Indians -215 --- Over/Under: 8.5
The Cleveland Indians and the Kansas City Royals will be finishing out their MLB regular seasons on Sunday from Kauffman Stadium.
After splitting the first two games of this set, on Saturday the Royals secured a big 9-4 win.
For the Sunday game, the Indians will be sending out RHP Carlos Carrasco. In his 187.0 innings and 16-10 mark this year, Carrasco has a 3.42 ERA with 225 Ks and 41 BBs.
Cleveland’s lead hitter this year is Francisco Lindor, who came into the weekend on 182 hits, 127 runs, 37 homers and 91 RBI. On Saturday, Lindor came up empty.
Over on the Royals’ side, they’re going with LHP Eric Skoglund on Sunday. Across 65.0 innings and a 1-5 record this year, Skoglund has a 5.40 ERA with 46 Ks and 17 BBs.
The Royals’ top bat is Whit Merrifield, with 189 hits, 87 runs, 12 homers and 58 RBI coming into the weekend. On Saturday, Merrifield had two hits, two RBI and a run.
The Indians are 11-5 in their last 16 Sunday games and 39-19 in their last 58 in game four of a series. Cleveland is 3-7 in Carrasco’s last 10 Sunday starts and 0-4 in his last four starts with four days’ rest.
Meanwhile, the Royals are 7-20 in their last 27 Sunday games and 2-5 in Skoglund’s last seven starts with four days’ rest. Kansas City is also 1-6 in Skoglund’s last seven starts and 0-5 in his last five versus a team with a winning record.
Carrasco has been pretty solid lately, with three quality outings in his last four games and a total of eight earned given up in 26.0 innings during that span. As for Skoglund, he’s been pretty good over his last three starts with two earned in a period of 13.1 innings. With Cleveland all set for the postseason, they probably won’t do much with their major guys here besides maybe getting them a couple of ABs to stay loose. I think the Royals might be able to sneak in and win here.
