|Date & Time||Wednesday July 25, 2018, 2:15 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Kansas City Royals -128 / Detroit Tigers +118 --- Over/Under: 8.5
The Detroit Tigers and the Kansas City Royals will be finishing up their MLB set on Wednesday from Kauffman Stadium.
The Tigers squeezed by 5-4 on Monday, then in game two Tuesday the Royals scored twice in the first inning on the way to a 5-4 win.
For the Wednesday game, lefty Matthew Boyd will be taking the mound for the Tigers. Over his 103.1 innings and 4-9 record this year, Boyd has a 4.62 ERA with 93 Ks and 38 BBs.
Nick Castellanos is Detroit’s top hitter this year, coming into game two with 118 hits, 54 runs, 15 homers and 56 RBI. On Tuesday, Castellanos had a hit and two runs.
Over on the Royals’ side, they’re going with Danny Duffy for Wednesday’s start. In his 120.2 innings and 6-8 mark this year, Duffy has a 4.40 ERA with 107 Ks and 56 BBs.
Tops in hitting for KC is Whit Merrifield, who entered game two on 111 hits, 44 runs and 31 RBI. On Tuesday, Merrifield had a hit and a run.
The Tigers are 0-4 in their last four Wednesday games and 2-12 in Boyd’s last 14 road starts. Detroit is 0-6 in Boyd’s last six starts and 1-5 in his last six starts in game three of a series.
Meanwhile, the Royals are 17-38 in the last 55 in game three of a series and 1-5 in their last six Wednesday games. KC is 5-0 in Duffy’s last five starts with four days’ rest and 2-7 in his last nine home starts.
It’s been a tough road lately for Boyd, who hasn’t recorded a win since June 7, going 0-5 in that time with four instances of five or more earned runs allowed. Duffy has had a couple of hiccups lately himself, but on the whole has been great in his last three starts with one earned in 20.0 innings. I’m going with Duffy and the Royals here.
