The Los Angeles Angels and the Kansas City Royals will meet up on the MLB circuit Friday to kick off their weekend series.
LA is coming off a set versus the Yankees. The Angels lost the first three games of that series by a combined four runs, then on Thursday prevented the sweep with a dominant 11-5 win.
For the Friday game, LA will be sending out Tyler Skaggs in the start. Over his 15.0 innings and 1-2 record this year, Skaggs has a 4.20 ERA with 14 Ks and two walks.
Over on the Royals’ side, their offense is led by Whit Merrifield, who has 31 hits, 19 runs, four homers and 11 RBI with his .298 BA. Alex Gordon isn’t too far behind that pace for KC with 28 hits, 15 runs, five homers and 21 RBI.
In Friday’s game, Kansas City will be going with Danny Duffy in the starting role. Duffy hasn’t pitched yet this year, but in 2018 he went 8-12 with a 4.88 ERA in 155.0 innings.
The Angels are 6-0 in the last six versus the AL Central and 20-42 in their last 62 road games. LA is 1-4 in Skaggs’ last five road starts and 0-4 in their last four in game one of a series.
Meanwhile, the Royals are 16-36 in their last 52 versus the AL West and 3-7 in their last 10 home games. KC is 1-5 in their last six overall and 1-4 in Duffy’s last five starts.
After two solid starts in which he put up three earned in 11.0 innings, Duffy had a rough time his last outing at Wrigley with four earned on seven hits in 4.0 innings.
As for Duffy, we haven’t seen him since last year, but he did finish off the season with a sketchy run. In three of his last six starts, Duffy put up at least six earned runs, and didn’t even make it out of the first inning in his last appearance in Cleveland September 4.
That said, if KC can get five or six solid innings from Duffy they should have enough juice on offense to take care of the rest. I’m going Royals.
