New York Yankees (28-13) at Kansas City Royals (14-30)
|Date & Time||Sunday May 20, 2018, 2:15 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Kansas City Royals +174 / New York Yankees -185 --- Over/Under: 9
From Kauffman Stadium in Sunday MLB action, the New York Yankees will be finishing up their series with the Kansas City Royals.
Kansas City took the first game of this set Friday, then on Saturday the Yanks made it even with an 8-3 win.
New York is sending out Sonny Gray for the start Sunday. Over his 38.0 innings and 2-3 record this year, Gray has a 6.39 ERA with 32 Ks and 24 BBs.
The dangerous Aaron Judge led the Yankees in most offensive categories heading into the weekend with 46 hits, 33 runs, 11 homers and 35 RBI. On Saturday, Judge whiffed but Gary Sanchez ripped two homers with three RBI.
In Sunday’s game, the Royals will be going with Eric Skoglund. Over 40.1 innings and a 1-3 mark this season, Skoglund has a 5.58 ERA with 32 Ks and 10 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Royals entering play this weekend was Whit Merrifield with 51 hits, 23 runs and 16 RBI. On Saturday, Merrifield had one hit.
The Yankees are 4-0 in their last four Sunday games and 6-1 in their last seven during game three of a series. New York is also 0-4 in Gray’s last four road starts and the under is 4-1 in their last five during game three of a series.
Meanwhile, the Royals are 3-8 in Skoglund’s last 11 starts and 7-22 in their last 29 during game three of a series. KC is also 3-7 in Skoglund’s last 10 starts on grass and the under is 5-2 in his last seven home starts.
Gray is kind of an enigma right now. He started out the season pretty shaky, then had a decent run of starts until his five earned on nine hits in 5.0 innings his last time out. Skoglund has had some rough outings as well, but is sitting on two straight quality starts with five earned in his last 14.0 innings. I’m going to assume Gray can put the Yankees in a position to win, but this is probably a game to stay away from given how volatile Gray and the New York offense can be.
