The Line: Kansas City Royals +115 / Oakland Athletics -125 --- Over/Under: 9.5
Coming up on Saturday from Kauffman Stadium, the Oakland Athletics and the Kansas City Royals will be continuing their MLB series.
In the Friday opener, Oakland flat-out obliterated the Royals with seven runs in both the third and ninth innings on the way to a dominating 16-0 performance.
For Saturday’s game, the A’s will be bringing out RHP Trevor Cahill. In his 44.0 innings and 1-2 record this year, Cahill has a 2.25 ERA with 41 Ks and nine walks.
Leading the way for the A’s coming into this set was Jed Lowrie, with 66 hits, 20 runs and 39 RBI. In the opener, Lowrie had two runs and an RBI.
Over on the Royals’ side, they’re going with Jason Hammel on Saturday. Over 65.1 innings and a 2-5 record this year, Hammel has a 5.23 ERA with 43 Ks and 18 BBs.
Jon Jay was the leading hitter for the Royals entering this series on his 67 hits, 25 runs and 15 RBI. In the Friday game, Jay came up hitless.
The A’s are 4-11 in Cahill’s last 15 starts with four days’ rest and 1-4 in his last five starts. Oakland is also 9-3 in Cahill’s last 12 road starts versus a team with a losing record and 1-5 in hi last six starts versus the AL Central.
Meanwhile, the Royals are 2-5 in the last seven during game two of a series and 0-4 in their last four Saturday games. KC is also 4-11 in Hammel’s last 15 starts and 0-4 in his last four home starts.
Cahill has had a few ups and downs this year, but overall he’s been solid and is sitting on two straight quality starts. As for Hammel, he had a couple of bad outings last month but since has allowed just one earned in his last 12.1 innings. I’m going to have to stick with the Royals here despite the bad performance on Friday.
