Kansas City Royals +115 / Philadelphia Phillies -125 O/U: 9.5
The Philadelphia Phillies and the Kansas City Royals will meet up to finish their MLB series on Sunday.
In the Friday opener of this set, Kansas City took a 5-1 win. On Saturday in game two, the Phillies banged out a 7-0 win.
For the Sunday finale, the Phillies will be sending out Vince Velasquez for the start. In his 30.1 innings and 1-2 record this year, Velasquez has a 3.86 ERA with 32 Ks and 15 BBs.
The Phillies put up three runs in the third and two more in the sixth on the way to their shutout win on Saturday. Odubel Herrera put up a double, a triple and two runs in that one.
Over on the Royals’ side, they’re going with Jakob Junis on Sunday. Across 44.0 innings and a 3-3 mark so far, Junis has a 5.52 ERA with 37 Ks and 14 BBs.
KC only managed four hits on the night Saturday, and the only extra-base knock came courtesy of Alex Gordon, who logged a double.
The Phillies are 10-1 in the last 11 in game three of a series and 6-1 in their last seven Sunday games. Philly is 3-12 in Velasquez’s last 15 road starts and 2-8 in his last 10 road starts versus a team with a losing record.
Meanwhile, the Royals are 12-47 in their last 59 in game three of a series and 5-22 in their last 27 Sunday games. KC is 4-1 in Junis’ last five home starts and 5-12 in his last 17 versus a team with a winning record.
Velasquez was cruising along at a nice clip, but has run into some trouble in his last two starts. In that span, he’s got 7.2 innings with eight earned on 10 hits and eight walks.
As for Junis, he had a string of a couple good starts snapped after his last outing with five earned on nine hits in 5.1 innings.
I’m not thrilled with either pitcher here, but Velasquez should be able to hold things together well enough. I’ll go Philly.
