The Line: Kansas City Royals -112 / St. Louis Cardinals +102 --- Over/Under: 7.5
The Kansas City Royals and the St. Louis Cardinals face off on Saturday at Kauffman Stadium for game two of their MLB series.
The Kansas City Royals jumped on the Cardinals early on Friday and that was all they really needed as they beat St. Louis to open their series. Kendrys Morales had three hits including a home run, Savador Perez had three hits, and Lorenzo Cain and Paul Orlando each had two hits as the Royals scpred five runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Chris Young allowed six hits and struck out two over 6.0 scoreless innings to get the win and go to 4-0 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Royals start Edison Volquez who has allowed 35 hits and 15 earned runs while striking out 38 over 49.1 innings for a 3-3 record and a 2.74 ERA.
The St. Louis Cardinals never got the offense started on Friday as the lost game one in Kansas City. Matt Carpenter had three hits, Yadier Molina had two hits, and Kolten Wong had a hit as the Cardinals didn’t socre on eight hits. Starting pitcher Lance Lynn allowed 10 hits and five runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 3-4 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Cardinals start John Lackey who has allowed 45 hits and 17 earned runs while striking out 36 over 51.2 innings for a 2-2 record and a 2.96 ERA.
Kansas City is 7-1 against the NL Central, 23-8 in their last 31 home games, and 4-1 in Volquez’s last five home starts. St. Louis is 9-3 in game two of a series, 11-6 against a team with a winning record, and 1-7 in Lackey’s last eight road starts. St. Louis is 25-9 in their last 34 games in Kansas City.
Volquez was named late as the starter for the Royals so the odds aren’t out but regardless I like the Royals in this one.
